The Idea of Goober Pet Company

I was feeding the dogs a pet food that was called shiny coat or something like that. It was made locally and was sold in mainly privately owned pet stores. Pet smart and Petco did not carry it.

My wife at the time had went down to get some of the dog food that worked well with our dogs. The store was out of the food and told her to pay for it and they would deliver it to our door.

I did not know that they where delivering it that day. When the doorbell rang I answered the door and a guy was standing their with the dog food. I ask my wife at the time what this was for. She explained that they had been out and delivered the food to us.

After the delivery guy left I thought to myself wow what a concept! I mean no storefront and with the delivery system our growth would be unlimited. I immediately started working on my concept to make it a real business.

In business you need to watch things everyday and you'll get ideas and opportunities that will come your way! This was a day for me that I paid attention to and opened a successful business!

Goober got going

Goober started growing up so I decided to take him to Petsmart training. He did well during this limited amount training. He really warmed up to the training and did well. 6 weeks later he got his degree

As I started looking how well he was doing I decided to see if their was even more training. I found Phoenix Dog Academy and signed him and Sampson up for the program.

The company sent a trainer directly out to your home. The guys name was Bob. He was a good trainer and quickly started to like Goober. Goober attitude was to learn all he could. He was soooo easy to train. He loved the trainer and loved to learn. Sampson was also being trained and loved it also.

As we were training the Wrigley Gum was looking for a dog for a European commercial. Goober had a picture at the school. Being a doberman/border collie mix they thought he was the perfect dog!

A van and personal trainer picked him up the next day and Goober was off to Hollywood....well TV ad anyway.

He had his own hotel room, van, and trainer! He didn't like it to much and had a rough time. He didn't eat much and wanted to get home.

Being the worried parent that I was I picked him up around midnight at the Waffle House. I decided that Goober would not do anymore long distance ads without me being their with him!

The first day I met Goober

I met this dog on my mom and dads ranch. The neighbor had brought some puppies over to give them away(Goober being one of them). My mom liked one of them and wanted me to train the dog. When I brought him home he immediately showed me how smart he actually was.

One day when I put him on my sofa he rolled around that thing until his little 6 month body fell off the sofa. I immediately called him Goober. What a Goob to fall off the couch. I fell in love with the dog and had to inform Mom that I was totally sold out on the dog and she wouldn't be getting it back. (I later found them a wonderful dog named Dino which I'll talk about later in my blog).

What I didn't know is this great dog would change my life and his name still lives on today in the business world.

Everyone made fun of my new named dog I mean Goober is a a weird name but not one you'd forget. I should also mention the rest of his family. Sampson , Paradise, and Harley

Sampson was a lab I had gotten from the pound. He was active and very loyal. Black as tar and a Nutro Max coat that glistened in the sun. He was a very pretty dog. His only little problem was he hated I mean hated cats. I guess one them pissed him off at the pound and believe you me that dog never forgot about it.

Paradise was my first wife's dog a Toy Poodle that pissed and barked all the time. That dog thought it was 100 pound mean fighting dog. That was until Goober came around.

Harley came a little later he was a big red doberman that I had found in Scottsdale. Very well breed and great personality to boot. Him and Goober became very close and admired each other. Harley was a great watch dog and was a great show dog. We talk later about that.

So that is the family that I started with when Goober was introduced to my life. I was married at the time but nothing worth mentioning.
